Missouri Tigers Land Backfield Weapon From The Transfer Portal
Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Missouri Tigers saw one of the greatest seasons in program history from running back Cody Schrader. Now the challenge is to replace him. Eli Drinkwitz may have found his man. The Tigers landed former Georgia State running back Marcus Carroll from the transfer portal.

Missouri Tigers Land RB Marcus Carroll

Carroll had an amazing season himself in 2023. He was sixth in the NCAA in rushing with 1,350 rushing yards on 274 carries and 13 touchdowns. On3 lists him as the third-best running back in the portal. This is a solid pickup for Missouri who hopefully can turn Carroll into one of the top backs in the SEC. Carroll had this to say in a statement.

“The culture at Missouri is amazing from the players to the coaches to the overall support from the community. Playing in the SEC has a big impact on this as well. Not only will it be on a top-tier team competing for a championship but I’ll also be able to showcase my talents against what I think is one of the most competitive conferences in college football right now week-to-week.”

SEC Power

One part of Carroll’s quote that said a lot was the idea that playing in the SEC had a huge impact on his decision. The conference gets more powerful in 2024 with Texas and Oklahoma joining the ranks. There will be many nationally televised, high-profile matchups next season. This is what players want as it gives them a chance to show a national audience what they can do. The Tigers are hoping to build on this season and compete with Alabama and Georgia next year.

This is a great pickup for the Missouri Tigers. The offense can clearly produce a top back and they get one in Carroll.
