Basel starlet Renato Veiga is one of the names that AC Milan have on their midfield wish list ahead of the summer, a report has confirmed.

While all the speculation continues regarding who will be the next head coach of Milan after Stefano Pioli, one of the mercato moves seems obvious regardless of who is the manager.

The absence of a true No.6 – i.e. a deeper-lying midfielder to shield the back four – has been made painfully apparent at various times this season.

Now, Calciomercato.com are reporting once again that Basel’s Renato Veiga is a name that Geoffrey Moncada has his eye on in view of the upcoming mercato.

He arrived in Switzerland from Sporting CP last summer for just under €5m and he has grown a lot. Nelson Veiga, the father and agent of the Portuguese player, spoke to Numero Diez about his son’s future.

“What I know is that Milan has been following Renato Veiga for a long time. Obviously with the opening of the window they could try to make a move, now they are still interested and observing his performances. However, there is nothing concrete yet, no official offer from Milan,” he said.
